LONDON: British Prime Minister Andy Burnham has condemned the possibility of a public execution in the US as "abhorrent."
A Pentagon official said last Thursday that the execution by firing squad of convicted Fort Hood military base shooter Nidal Hasan would be livestreamed, although US President Donald Trump has since said no decision had been taken on whether to broadcast it.
Asked about the possibility of a public execution in the US, Burnham told The Rest is Politics podcast due to be released on Monday: "I would never support that."
"It's something that I can't say I ever want to see anywhere in the world," he said.
"It's something that I find quite abhorrent in many ways," he added.
US President Donald Trump said on Friday there has been no decision yet on whether to publicly broadcast the execution of a military base shooter, though he expressed support for carrying out the death penalty by firing squad.
"They are making a determination about that, but he will be killed," Trump said of plans to livestream the Dec 3 execution of Nidal Hasan by firing squad. "I really don't care how he goes, as long as he goes," he said.
