It's already a crisis!
After the crushing 4-1 defeat to Como in the Champions League, the Manchester United hot seat is under intense scrutiny.
With an apparent rift with some senior players and results falling well short of expectations, here are the four main scenarios taking shape for the United managerial job:
1. The emergency option: appoint Eddie Howe quickly
Available since leaving Newcastle, Eddie Howe is widely seen in England as the leading contender. He has extensive Premier League experience, favours high-intensity football and is reportedly particularly enthusiastic about the prospect of getting the team back on track straight away.
2. The board's choice: Julian Nagelsmann
This is reportedly the option that excites INEOS most. Available since his spell in charge of Germany ended, Nagelsmann would bring tactical discipline, a modern playing philosophy and the iron fist needed to restore order in the dressing room.
3. The experienced option: Antonio Conte
Antonio Conte is also named by the English press among the candidates being considered. The Italian specialises in turning teams around and instilling a winning mentality from day one.
4. One last chance for Michael Carrick
Despite the speculation and internal tensions with senior players, the board could give Carrick one final reprieve to turn things around in the very next league match against Bournemouth. Another defeat, however, would almost certainly seal his departure.
Which do you think is the best option? Let us know in the comments!
