Nigerian singer Mr. Eazi has expressed confidence that he could soon become a US dollar billionaire, while revealing that financial success is not his primary goal.
The singer made this known during an interview with Ras Kwame of Capital XTRA and monitored by PUNCH Online on Thursday, when he was asked whether he agreed with the suggestion that he was on his way to becoming Afrobeats’ first billionaire.
Responding to the question, Mr. Eazi said his answer depended on the currency being considered.
“Depends on what currency you’re talking about,” he replied.
When the interviewer clarified that he was referring to the Nigerian naira and suggested that the singer had already attained billionaire status in the currency, Mr. Eazi affirmed, “Billionaire.”
Asked whether he was also on his way to becoming a billionaire in US dollars, the singer expressed optimism that the milestone could happen soon.
“US dollars, you know, will come soon,” he stated.
However, Mr. Eazi explained that becoming a billionaire was not necessarily his ultimate ambition, noting that he was more grateful for the life he enjoys and the freedom to pursue his musical interests.
“I’m not really looking for that; that’s not the target,” he said, adding that the financial milestone could happen “anytime now.”
The singer also emphasised the importance of creative independence, describing the freedom to make and release music on his own terms as particularly valuable to him.
“Freedom is very big to me. Freedom musically, freedom to be able to put out music freely,” he said.
During the interview, the conversation also touched on his business interests, including his stake in a UK ticketing company, which he acknowledged when the interviewer brought it up.
Mr. Eazi was subsequently asked whether he could be regarded as Africa’s Jay-Z, a comparison he appeared comfortable embracing.
“You have Africa’s Jay-Z, you know, you could do that,” he said.
He also made a playful comparison between his relationship with his wife, Temi Otedola, and American rapper Jay-Z’s marriage to singer Beyoncé.
“Jay-Z is Jay-Z. I’m Mr. Eazi. Mr. Eazi has Beyoncé, I have Temi,” he added.
Mr. Eazi, whose real name is Oluwatosin Ajibade, is known not only for his music career but also for his business interests. His comments have renewed conversations about wealth creation, entrepreneurship, and the growing commercial influence of Afrobeats artists.
Although the singer suggested that becoming a US dollar billionaire could be within reach, he maintained that creative freedom remains one of his most important priorities.
