The Suzuki Alto could become cheaper under Pakistan’s proposed Automotive and Auto Parts Policy 2026–31, which seeks to change the tax structure for conventional and new energy vehicles.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif approved the policy’s final draft on Tuesday after months of discussions. The government will submit the draft to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for approval before seeking federal cabinet approval and introducing a bill in parliament.
According to the proposed policy, customs duty on conventional internal combustion engine (ICE) cars and SUVs will be 15% in 2031, with no additional or regulatory duty. The draft also proposes an ICE levy ranging from 2% to 10% to encourage car manufacturers to increase exports.
Based on estimates published by The Express Tribune, the Suzuki Alto’s price could fall from Rs. 3.2 million to Rs. 2.845 million in the first fiscal year under the proposed policy. This would amount to an estimated reduction of Rs. 355,000.
The projected price reflects the newspaper’s estimate of the policy’s potential impact. It is not an officially announced price, and the proposed policy still requires IMF and federal cabinet approval.
