Road users in Mushitala area of Solwezi district are appealing to the government and Kansanshi Mining PLC to put up a sidewalk on the Mitec-Mine Boom gate dual carriage way road upgrade.
Dorcus Mokya, expressed concern that the road which is under construction will not have a sidewalk for pedestrians.
She explained that the road is very busy with a lot of schools stressing the need for the government to put up a sidewalk as construction is still ongoing.
“We appreciate that the road is being constructed into a dual carriageway but our concern is the safety of road users especially school going children,” Ms Mokya said.
Meanwhile, another road user, William Kamalata, has thanked the government for upgrading the road adding that it will help reduce congestion.
Mr Kamalata stated that once the road is completed, it will reduce the challenges motorists faced in repairing vehicles due to the poor condition the road was in.
He has called on Kansanshi to put up sidewalks for easy and free movement of pedestrians.
Mr Kamalata has further called for the erection of shelters at the designated bus stops.
“This development is commendable, and we have to work together to safeguard the signage that will be put on the road,” he emphasised.
