Ufone & Telenor Pakistan, in collaboration with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), hosted an executive knowledge-sharing workshop, titled “Zero Trust in a Hyperconnected Telecom Environment” at their Headquarters to discuss practical approaches to strengthening cybersecurity across increasingly interconnected telecom networks. The workshop brought together regulator representatives, telecom industry leaders, cybersecurity professionals, academia, and technical stakeholders from related sectors.
The workshop focused on the evolving cybersecurity challenges facing telecom networks, where users, systems, services and third parties are increasingly interconnected. Experts highlighted the importance of moving beyond reliance on traditional perimeter-based security controls towards approaches that verify access, strengthen access governance, manage privileged access and support the resilience of critical telecom infrastructure.
The workshop featured openings remarks by Mr. Mukarram Khan, DG PTA Cyber Vigilance followed by technical sessions on evolving telecom threats, Zero Trust implementation and sustaining Zero Trust as an ongoing security approach. The event showcased the strong cybersecurity expertise and delivery capabilities of the Ufone & Telenor Pakistan Cybersecurity Team through engaging knowledge-sharing sessions, complemented by insightful keynote addresses from industry and security expert Tauseef Aslam and participation from other industry leaders and cybersecurity professionals.
The sessions were followed by an audience question-and-answer session and an interactive knowledge quiz, which provided participants the opportunity to exchange perspectives and share practical experience.
The workshop highlighted the fact that cybersecurity in telecommunications is a shared responsibility requiring collaboration among regulators, operators and the wider industry. It further highlighted that Zero Trust is not a one-time technology deployment or a standalone product, but a continuous journey involving access verification, appropriate security controls and adaptation as networks, technologies and threats evolve.
Commenting on the initiative, Chief Corporate Affairs Officers, Ufone & Telenor Pakistan – Shan ul Haq said, “As telecom networks become more interconnected, building trust into how users, devices and systems access services is increasingly important. Through this workshop, Ufone & Telenor Pakistan and PTA brought industry stakeholders together to exchange practical experience and strengthen our collective understanding of Zero Trust. Collaboration and continuous improvement are essential to building a more secure and resilient telecom ecosystem.”
Through the initiative, Ufone & Telenor Pakistan reaffirmed their commitment to cybersecurity, secure and resilient telecom services, and constructive engagement with the regulator and industry stakeholders, in order to ensure uninterrupted connectivity and digital services. The exchange was intended to contribute to greater cybersecurity awareness and informed industry dialogue to support efforts towards stronger security practices, improved access governance and more resilient interconnected telecom infrastructure.
