Chery's Omoda Jaecoo division has unveiled the Omoda X, a new crossover with thermal imaging and a tougher SUV look, as it prepares to expand its Australian lineup.
CarExpert attended the Omoda X Night unveiling in Wuhu, China, on October 20, held as part of the Chery Group’s International User Summit.
Australian availability, pricing and launch timing for the Omoda X have yet to be announced. Omoda Jaecoo’s local operation previewed the vehicle ahead of the event, without confirming it for sale here.
The Omoda X introduces what the brand calls its 'Crossvolution' design direction for Omoda vehicles, combining a more upright, rugged appearance with the angular styling already seen on its newer crossovers.
The company describes it as the meeting of the "dynamic tension of a sports car" with "the raw strength of an off-road vehicle".

The Omoda X features pronounced wheel arches, extensive lower-body cladding and sharply creased panels. Its daytime running lights have a jagged outline, while the rear lamps use lightning-like graphics.
Slotting below the Omoda 9, the mid-size Omoda X measures 4650mm long, 1910mm wide and 1720mm tall, or roughly the same size as a Toyota RAV4.
It has 200mm of ground clearance and a wading depth of over 700mm. The Omoda X revealed at the summit wears 19-inch alloy wheels wrapped in all-terrain tyres.
While full specifications have yet to be detailed, the Omoda X will be offered with either two-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) or electric (EV) powertrains.
The brand claims a towing capacity of up to 1800kg for the Omoda X, with a roof load capacity of 75kg.

In a first for Omoda Jaecoo, the Omoda X features an infrared thermal imaging system – or night vision – with a claimed recognition range of up to 90 metres.
Inside, it has what the Chinese brand calls a Mecha Command Cockpit, with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 13.2-inch central touchscreen, and physical toggle switches and rotary controls for functions like the air-conditioning and drive mode selection.
There are a claimed 39 storage spaces inside.

For Australian buyers, the brand’s next confirmed additions are the Omoda 4 and Omoda 7, both due in the first half of 2027 after their local unveiling at Everything Electric Sydney in September.
The Omoda 4 is a small SUV aimed at models such as the Hyundai Kona and the Chery Group’s own Jaecoo J5. The 7 moves into the mid-size SUV class occupied by the Toyota RAV4 and Jaecoo J7.
The two upcoming models also introduce more angular styling than the existing Omoda 9 large SUV. That vehicle is derived from Chery’s Exeed range, with an updated version already previewed in China.
The Omoda 7 has its own unusual cabin feature: a 15.6-inch touchscreen that can slide across to the passenger’s side of the dashboard. It's offered on the flagship UK-market version, though Omoda Jaecoo Australia has yet to confirm if it'll be offered here.
