The Jigawa State Government has signed a 10 million dollar joint venture agreement with an Indian company, Srinivasa Farms Private Limited, to establish a modern poultry hatchery aimed at boosting chicken production, creating jobs and improving food security.
Under the agreement signed on Friday in Dutse, the state government will own 40 per cent of the company, while the Indian firm will hold the remaining 60 per cent stake.
Speaking at the ceremony at the Government House, Governor Umar Namadi said the investment would address challenges facing poultry farmers, particularly access to quality chicks, modern farming techniques and veterinary support.
He said the partnership followed a visit by state officials to India last year and a subsequent visit by representatives of Srinivasa Farms to Jigawa for a field assessment.

Namadi described the project as part of his administration’s efforts to reposition the livestock sector for economic growth, food security and youth empowerment.
He said the hatchery would provide quality chicks, disease surveillance, veterinary advice and technical support to improve poultry management and production.

The governor added that the initiative aligned with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly its focus on strengthening local production and ensuring sustainable food security.
He said the facility would also supply chicks beyond Jigawa State, expressing his administration’s commitment to ensuring that the project becomes operational as soon as possible.
The Vice President of Srinivasa Farms Private Limited, Senthil Kumar Krishnan, who signed the agreement on behalf of the company, said Jigawa had the potential to become one of Nigeria’s leading poultry-producing states.
He assured the state government that the company would provide the technical expertise needed to ensure the success of the partnership.

The investment is expected to strengthen Jigawa’s poultry value chain and improve farmers’ access to quality chicks and modern production methods.
However, the project’s impact on food prices, employment and local poultry production will depend on its timely completion and the extent to which farmers can access its services.
