Google is testing a new Settings menu in its Messages app. The update puts options into clear groups. Android users should find their preferences more easily. PhoneArena spotted the change in a beta version of the app. Google has not said when it will reach everyone.
Google Simplifies the Settings Menu
The current settings menu is just a long list. Searching for a particular setting takes time. The redesigned menu divides this list into different sections.
The main settings menu displays categories such as Messaging, Notifications, Privacy, Spam & Safety, Phone Number & Region, and Reaction & Effects. There is also a small description of what this section contains. Basically, the user does not have to go through all the pages to find the right setting.
The section on messaging includes RCS, SMS/MMS, reliability, and auto-downloads. The section on privacy includes profile management, read receipts, and typing indicators.
The pages within each section are organized more neatly as well. The options fall under different subheadings like Connectivity, Reliability, Display & Gestures, and Smart Features & AI.

New Visuals Explain Messaging Features
Google is also adding illustrations to some settings pages. The pictures show what a feature does at a glance. Read receipts, typing indicators, and spam protection are expected to get them. Gemini and Smart Reply will also get new artwork.
The redesign is not finished yet. Some pages still have a lot of empty space. This suggests Google may keep working on the look before a full launch.
Redesigned Settings Menu Remains in Beta
As of now, the updated interface is available in the beta version. The beta update is available through the Google Play Store. The update doesn’t guarantee the availability of the new interface since Google sometimes implements updates for a limited group of people.
The changes focus on the app’s layout rather than the message-sending process. In case of widespread issues, managing your settings should become easier for Android users.
