Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar has said that establishing peace and maintaining law and order across the province is the foremost priority of the Sindh government. He stated that full support has been extended to intelligence agencies, Pakistan Rangers and Sindh Police to establish peace in the Katcha areas.
He expressed these views while addressing the concluding ceremony of the three-day Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Sports Festival held in Ronti Katcha.
The ceremony was attended by IGP Sindh Javed Alam Odho, DIG Sukkur Nasir Aftab Pathan, DC Ghotki Manzoor Ahmed, SSP Ghotki Muhammad Anwar Khetran, Rangers Wing Commander Farhan Ali, District Sports Officer Nisar Ahmed Chandio, officers from various departments and a large number of residents of the Katcha areas.
Addressing the gathering, Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar said that the state is like a mother, and the government does not wish to cause hardship to anyone. The people living in the Katcha areas are close to our hearts. We only oppose those who commit oppression. The state will not tolerate anyone taking the law into their own hands.
The Home Minister said that President Asif Ali Zardari had convened a meeting in Sukkur and took all stakeholders into confidence before initiating the surrender policy. Although the policy faced criticism, the situation today speaks for itself, as complete peace and order have been established in an area like Ronti Katcha.
He also thanked Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Home Affairs, Mrs Faryal Talpur, and the Chief Minister of Sindh for continuously encouraging Sindh Police and providing it with the necessary facilities. He said that the presence of the provincial leadership in Ronti Katcha today was a result of the surrender policy.
Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar said that the government intends to establish schools, dispensaries and veterinary hospitals in the Katcha areas. A strategy is being developed to ensure that these facilities remain protected from damage during floods.
He said that the government wants children from the Katcha areas to become Deputy Commissioners and SSPs in the future. For this vision to become a reality, the residents must cooperate with the state to improve their living conditions. However, he added that if anyone resorts to violence, the state will respond accordingly.
The Sindh Home Minister further stated that the Ghotki-Kandhkot Bridge would be constructed soon, bringing greater prosperity to the region. He described the project as a game changer for both districts.
He also commended the police officers of Larkana and Sukkur divisions for their contributions towards establishing peace in the Katcha areas. Speaking on the occasion, IGP Sindh Javed Alam Odho said that peace had been established in the Katcha areas through the Sindh government’s Surrender Policy and the cooperation of all law enforcement agencies. As a result, members of tribes previously caught up in tribal conflicts are now sitting together in an atmosphere of peace.
