Wrestling fans from the Bahr el Ghazal region and close family members have confirmed that the giant wrestler, Alijou Nhial, famously known as Coronavirus, who hails from Lakes State’s Yirol West County, died at Nile King Specialized Hospital in Juba due to complications from Hepatitis B and meningitis at 3:30 A.M. on Monday.
Anyak Mabor Anyak, the Secretary General of the Yirol West Youth Association/Forum based in Juba, told Radio Tamazuj on Monday that the deceased fell sick two months ago and was transferred to Juba for specialized treatment. He added that a statue will be built in Yirol West Town to honor the fallen wrestler.
“Two months ago, he was transferred to Juba on a chartered plane and was admitted to Nile King Specialized Hospital. Doctors diagnosed him with meningitis and Hepatitis B,” he explained. “He recovered a bit, and the family took him back to Yirol West. He fell sick again and was brought back to Nile King Specialized Hospital, where he died this morning.”
Olivia Ajak, a fan who broke down in tears, said she was devastated and speechless following the demise of the wrestler.
“I visited Alijou Nhial in the hospital to see his condition. Unfortunately, he died. The wrestler known as Coronavirus will be remembered as a person of peace who was very kind-hearted and loved everyone,” she said. “Alijou Nhial was loved by his community and wrestling fans across the country. He will be missed forever by his fans and his family, and his legacy will remain alive.”
According to Ajak, the late Alijou was a great wrestler who never disappointed his fans and never disrespected his opponents.
“We are going to miss him forever,” she stated.
