Epic Games has reportedly postponed its upcoming shooter game featuring Marvel and Star Wars characters. According to reports, the studio is shifting more towards using AI tools to develop games. Thus, the game, which was initially scheduled to launch in March 2027, has been postponed indefinitely, without any further release date.
Latest reports have revealed that the studio has asked its staff to use tools like Anthropic's Claude to help write code and create artwork, though human developers will still guide and check the work. About the delay and AI-first approach, Jake Jones, communications director at Epic Games, mentioned, “We're embracing AI-accelerated development, led by Epic developers who are the visionaries and creative drivers for everything we do.”
The move is part of Epic's wider plan to bring AI into more areas of its work. Disney invested USD 1.5 billion in Epic in 2024 as part of a wider deal to connect games and entertainment. Epic believes AI can help its teams build more products. However, the change has reportedly raised concerns among some staff.
The company has also faced problems with AI content in the past. Previously, in Fortnite, the studio featured an AI-made Darth Vader that used to give unwanted replies, and Epic had to fix the issue. This shows exactly why AI-made content needs thorough checks before wider release.

Why Human Checks Still Matter
AI can make the development process faster, but AI-written code can contain errors that lead to crashes or broken features. Sometimes even artworks that are AI-generated have uneven characteristics, where the character and the background mismatch. Thus, developers must test missions, check gameplay balance, and fix bugs before launch. They also need to review the story, dialogue, and visuals. This is especially important for a game built around well-known Marvel and Star Wars characters.
Epic’s move toward AI may change how it makes the Disney shooter. However, AI alone cannot ensure a good game; careful testing and human input will still matter before release.
