Rio de Janeiro · Nightlife
Tonight, Sunday 18 October 2026, Rio de Janeiro is at its quietest and most local. The best confirmed plan is the free Sunday samba circle at Cacique de Ramos in Olaria, which starts at 5 p.m., and the Petrobras Symphony Orchestra plays the Theatro Municipal at 4 p.m., although its tickets are sold out. Rain is likely this afternoon and again late tonight, so plan a dry way home. All times are Rio time.

If You Only Go to One Place
Cacique de Ramos, Olaria
A long-running Sunday samba circle, free to enter, at the club tied to Zeca Pagodinho and the group Fundo de Quintal.
Tonight’s Top 3
1. Roda de samba at the Cacique de Ramos
Cacique de Ramos is a samba association founded in the early 1960s that the city recognised as intangible heritage in 2010. It was the cradle of artists such as Zeca Pagodinho, Jovelina Pérola Negra and Jorge Aragão, and its Sunday circle is a local institution.
- TonightSunday 18 October 2026, from 5 p.m. On the third Sunday of the month, which is today, the club’s long-standing schedule adds a feijoada with samba from 1 p.m.
- GenreTraditional samba and pagode.
- EntryFree. A table with four chairs costs R$10 (about US$2). We could not confirm tonight’s line-up of musicians.
- AddressRua Uranos 1326, Olaria, North Zone.
- VerdictA traditional samba night on a Sunday, and the best value on today’s list. For foreigners: it is a local crowd and the songs are in Portuguese, so go with a guide or a Portuguese speaker, and arrive early for a table. Rain is likely at 5 p.m., and we could not confirm whether the circle is covered.
2. Orquestra Petrobras Sinfônica at the Theatro Municipal
Conductor Glass Marcano leads the orchestra in Wynton Marsalis’s Trumpet Concerto, with the French trumpeter Éric Aubier as soloist, followed by Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 10. The programme marks Marsalis’s 65th birthday and Shostakovich’s 120th.
- TonightSunday 18 October 2026, 4 p.m. This is an afternoon concert, so it suits an early evening start.
- GenreClassical.
- EntryThe Fever listing shows the concert as sold out on 18 October. Tickets had been priced from R$10 to R$100 (about US$2 to US$20).
- AddressTheatro Municipal, Praça Floriano, Centro (Cinelândia).
- VerdictAn afternoon highlight for classical fans, but because it is sold out, treat it as a plan for another date. For foreigners: no Portuguese is needed, and the theatre stands in Cinelândia, beside the Metro station of the same name.
3. Piaf, “Eu Não Me Arrependo”, at the Teatro Riachuelo Rio
This is a musical about the French singer Edith Piaf, starring Laila Garin, whose season runs into November. The Sunday show is the matinee at 3 p.m.
- TonightSunday 18 October 2026, 3 p.m. There is no evening show on Sundays.
- GenreMusical theatre.
- EntryThe Ingresso.com listing shows R$300 (about US$59) for VIP seats, R$250 (about US$49) for regular seats, R$200 (about US$40) for the noble balcony and R$50 (about US$10) for the balcony. We could not confirm which sectors are still on sale.
- AddressTeatro Riachuelo Rio, Rua do Passeio 38, Centro.
- VerdictA seated, dry option for a wet Sunday afternoon, and the only one of the three that was not listed as sold out. For foreigners: it is in Portuguese, but the songs are Piaf’s, so the story is easy to follow.
Also Tonight
- —Blue Note Rio, Copacabana The club’s website shows no scheduled show, so we cannot point you to a confirmed Sunday night there.
- —Circo Voador and Vivo Rio Songkick lists no concert at either venue tonight.
Later This Week
- —Thursday 22 October Piaf plays the Teatro Riachuelo Rio at 8 p.m. The musical also plays at 8 p.m. on Friday and at 3:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Saturday (Ingresso.com).
- —Sunday 25 October Brazil holds its presidential runoff, so check transport and opening hours around polling times.
The Night in Context
Sunday is a quieter night for Rio’s big venues, and the live music moves to neighbourhood clubs and theatres. This week the confirmed programme is smaller than usual, with three events that have a venue, a date and a time we could check.
That is why this guide names what we could not confirm instead of filling the gap. Venue programmes often show old dates, so we only list events whose 2026 date appears on the listing.
The Cacique de Ramos circle is the clearest example of the local scene. Its Sunday roda has run for decades, and the club is part of the story of modern samba and pagode.
Brazil also votes in the presidential runoff on 25 October, one week from tonight. Election day is a Sunday, so check transport and opening hours before you travel that weekend.
Prices and line-ups come from listings checked on 18 October and can change at the door.
Practical Notes
- —Transport Olaria is in the North Zone, so a rideshare through Uber or 99 is the simplest way from Copacabana or Ipanema. The Theatro Municipal sits beside the Cinelândia Metro station.
- —Weather It is mild at about 21°C (70°F), with a 92 per cent rain chance at 3 p.m. that eases to 59 per cent at 6 p.m. and returns to 88 per cent by 11 p.m. Bring a light rain jacket and plan your ride home before the show ends.
- —Tickets Buy through the venue or its official ticket seller. Avoid street resellers outside the theatres.
- —Safety Carry a copy of your passport rather than the original, keep phones in a front pocket, and agree the pick-up point with your driver before the show ends.
What We Could Not Confirm
- —Cacique de Ramos We could not confirm tonight’s musicians, whether the circle is covered if it rains, whether the Sunday entry and table rules from older listings still apply, or the feijoada menu.
- —Orquestra Petrobras We could not confirm whether any returns will be sold at the door.
- —Piaf The prices come from the Ingresso.com listing; we could not confirm which sectors remain.
- —Other venues We found no confirmed listing for tonight at Fundição Progresso, Casa Rosa, Sacadura 154 or Blue Note Rio.
