PETALING JAYA: Warisan will hold its party elections at its annual general meeting this Sunday, with the party's top two posts not being contested once again.
Founding president Shafie Apdal will remain the party's chief for another term while Darell Leiking will continue to serve as his deputy, Borneo Post reported.
There will, however, be eight leaders in the running for the three vice-president posts, including all three incumbents – Jaujan Sambakong, Junz Wong and Terrence Siambun.
The others are Kota Belud MP Isnaraissah Munirah Majilis, Warisan information chief Azis Jamman, Darau assemblyman Azhar Matussin, Kapayan assemblyman Chin Tek Ming and Warisan Kota Belud deputy chief Charles Ebbie.
A total of 40 others will be contesting the 20 spots on the Warisan supreme council.
Shafie said Warisan's membership in Sabah had already reached 380,000. The party marked its 10th anniversary on Oct 17.
The former chief minister said Warisan had attracted members from various backgrounds and had sought to woo as many technocrats as possible.
He said Warisan mostly comprised young members, while the upcoming party election would be a regeneration process to allow these young members to step up as leaders and become legislators for Sabah and Malaysia.
"It shows the keen interest of grassroots members who want to not only become ordinary members but also leaders who decide our future," said Shafie.
