Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Energy has urged residents to follow gas safety rules during the heating season and check the condition of heating equipment, chimneys and ventilation systems.
The ministry warned that using homemade or faulty heating appliances, incorrectly connecting chimneys and installing gas equipment through unqualified personnel can lead to carbon monoxide poisoning and other accidents.
Carbon monoxide poses a particular danger because it is colourless and odourless, making it difficult to detect in time.
The ministry recommends using only heating appliances that meet safety requirements and having gas equipment installed and inspected by qualified specialists. Chimneys and flues should also be checked regularly for blockages and soot buildup.
Residents were urged to ensure that ventilation systems are working properly, keep ventilation ducts unobstructed and never use gas stoves to heat rooms. Gas equipment should be used only for its intended purpose and in accordance with established safety rules.
If heating appliances malfunction or a gas leak is suspected, residents should take precautions and contact the relevant emergency services.
Early symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning include headache, dizziness, nausea and weakness. Anyone experiencing these symptoms should immediately move into fresh air, help others leave the hazardous area and seek emergency medical assistance.
The Energy Ministry stressed that timely equipment inspections and compliance with operating rules can help reduce the risk of accidents during the heating season.
