Old Mutual Investment Group (OMIG) has recognised 16 agents and 10 units at its Agents Incentive Awards held at Hotel Africana, celebrating their contributions to customer retention, investment mobilisation and financial literacy during the first half of 2026.
Edmund Tumwesiga emerged as the top performer in customer retention, retaining shs12.36 billion in customer investments, while Daniel Gatsinzi was named second runner-up with shs 8.5 billion. Both received overseas trips in recognition of their performance.
The awards recognise achievements recorded between January and June 2026 and highlight the role agents play in attracting new investors, strengthening customer relationships and helping existing clients remain committed to their financial goals.
Presenting the business update for the first two quarters of 2026, Daniel Opiyo, Head of Marketing and Business Development at OMIG, highlighted the company’s position in Uganda’s growing unit trust market. According to the presentation, OMIG’s unit trust assets under management stood at shs4.14 trillion at the end of June, representing 58.5% of the market. The assets grew by shs306.1 billion between March and June, an increase of approximately 8%.
The presentation further showed that industry-wide unit trust assets under management increased from shs6.26 trillion in March to shs 7.08 trillion in June. Against this backdrop of market growth, the awards highlighted the contribution of agents in helping customers build confidence in investing and maintain their investments over time.
Zac Kisesi, Managing Director of Old Mutual Investment Group, said agents serve as an important link between the business and the people it serves, helping turn interest in investing into lasting customer relationships.
“Our agents contribute directly to the growth of our business by bringing in new clients and helping existing customers stay engaged with their investments. That contribution is built on trust. Every clear explanation, every question answered and every follow-up helps strengthen a customer’s confidence in us. These awards recognise the agents whose dedication continues to earn that trust and support our growth,” Kisesi said.
Certificates were presented across four categories: Agents with the Most Clients per Month; Top 10 Units in Net Client Cash Flow (NCCF); Best Agents in NCCF Monthly; and Best Agents in NCCF Overall for January to June 2026.
Opiyo said the awards recognise the sustained effort required to attract customers and support them throughout their investment journey, beyond the initial decision to invest.
“For many people, the decision to start investing begins with a conversation with an agent. Our responsibility is to make that conversation useful: understand what the customer wants to achieve, explain the options clearly and help them make an informed choice. Financial literacy is part of that everyday work, and following up after a customer joins is just as important as bringing them on board,” Opiyo said.
The business update also outlined OMIG’s continued focus on customer retention and quarterly agent training in product knowledge and skills. These initiatives are intended to strengthen the agency network’s ability to explain investment options clearly, improve customer understanding and maintain relationships beyond the initial investment.
Through the awards and its continued investment in agent development, OMIG underscored the importance of trust, financial education and sustained customer engagement in supporting the growth of Uganda’s unit trust market.
