Congress leader Gundappa Londankar has urged senior party leaders and authorities to reserve the Pattan and Nandikur Zilla Panchayat constituencies in the Kalaburagi South Assembly constituency for Scheduled Caste (SC) persons, alleging that the community has been denied fair representation in local bodies for decades.
Addressing a press conference in Kalaburagi city on Tuesday (October 13), Mr. Londankar said the Pattan Zilla Panchayat constituency had never been reserved for SC persons since its inception. The community had not secured reservation in either the zilla or taluk panchayat in the constituency for the past 35 years, resulting in social and political injustice, he alleged.
He stressed the need for transparency and fairness in the allocation of reservations to local body constituencies. The authorities should strictly follow the relevant laws, government guidelines, reservation roster system and official population data while determining the reservation categories, he said.
Mr. Londankar also alleged that the Pattana Zilla Panchayat constituency had initially been notified as reserved for SCs earlier this month but was reclassified as a general constituency just two days before announcing the category list.
Demanding a fair and transparent reservation process, he appealed to Home Minister Priyank Kharge and Allamprabhu Patil, Kalaburagi South MLA, to ensure that underrepresented communities received their due share of political representation in local bodies.
