Callum Smith (L) and Dmitry Bivol
Britain’s Callum Smith is set to challenge Dmitry Bivol for the unified world light-heavyweight championship in Yekaterinburg, Russia, on December 12.
The 36-year-old will return to the ring for the first time since defeating compatriot Joshua Buatsi in February 2025 to claim the WBO interim light-heavyweight title.
Bivol, 35, will defend his WBA, IBF and Ring world titles against Smith, despite the UK government advising British nationals against all travel to Russia.
The fight comes after British heavyweight Joe Joyce competed in Russia in July, suffering defeat to Artem Suslenkov in Moscow.
Smith, a former WBA super-middleweight champion, will be making another attempt to win a unified world title after losing to Russian boxer Artur Beterbiev in 2024.
Beterbiev subsequently defeated Bivol to become the undisputed light-heavyweight champion before losing their rematch in February 2025.
Bivol later relinquished his WBC title in pursuit of a third fight against Beterbiev, although the proposed bout failed to materialise.
Smith enters the contest with a professional record of 31 victories from 33 fights, including 22 knockouts.
Bivol, meanwhile, has won 25 of his 26 professional bouts, recording 12 knockouts. His only career defeat came against Beterbiev.
