Plus500 has laid out plans for a “super-app” in the US after completing a takeover that will deepen its presence across the Atlantic.
The FTSE 250 fintech said on Tuesday it had begun development of a super-app that will offer “sophisticated trading capabilities” and new features for US users.
It came as the firm revealed it had bought retail investor platform Hedge, which holds a US broker-dealer registration with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
The London-listed group said the takeover provides the SEC-regulation needed to launch its new super-app in the US in the first quarter of 2027. It added it plans to expand to further geographies “over time”.
Plus500 began operations in the UK shortly after it was founded in 2008. It expanded into the US nearly fifteen years later following the acquisition of Cunningham Commodities in 2021.
US super-app ‘significant’ step, says Plus500 boss
In the UK, it offers contracts for difference, which allow users to speculate on price movements without owning the underlying assets, and is regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.
The fintech recorded its highest customer income growth in five years in the first half of 2026 following its broader expansion into the US.
Segments outside of its traditional over-the-counter business scaled rapidly following the launch of its event-based prediction contracts. The contracts are financial derivatives where a user pays a fixed amount on a yes-or-no outcome of a future occurrence. So far, it has mainly focused on US sporting events.
The group’s boss David Zruia said the Hedge takeover was a “pivotal step” in the firm’s US growth plan and set it up for access to the “world’s largest retail investment market”.
“With our new hub in New York and the experienced Hedge team joining us, we have the people, licences and technology to accelerate our growth and generate sustainable, long-term returns for our shareholders,” he said.
Zrui added the new super-app would be one of Plus500’s “most significant product developments”.
