- Ugandan content creator Simpo Gladys filmed herself reacting to the exchange rate after converting 100,000 Ugandan shillings to Kenyan shillings during a visit to Nairobi
- She revealed the conversion had dropped significantly compared to a previous trip, leaving her with noticeably less Kenyan cash than before
- Kenyans flooded the comments with jokes and sympathy, with fans noting the irony of arriving wealthy and leaving feeling broke
Ugandan content creator Simpo Gladys visiting Nairobi got more than she bargained for when she stopped to convert her money and discovered exactly how far her Ugandan shillings would stretch in Kenya.
Filming from inside a moving car on October 13, 2026, with Nairobi streets rolling past the windows, the creator shared her candid reaction after exchanging 100,000 Ugandan shillings at a local bureau.
The amount came back as just KSh 2,500, a figure that clearly caught her off guard.
What stung most was the comparison. On a previous trip, the same amount had fetched her somewhere around KSh 3,000, making the current rate feel like a step backwards.
"I changed 100,000 Ugandan shillings and this is what I got, 2,500 Kenyan shillings. Only. Only!" she said, her disbelief evident.
She then turned the question on her companions in the car, wondering aloud what KSh 2,500 could realistically buy in Nairobi. The answer, as anyone familiar with Nairobi prices knows, is: it depends entirely on where you eat.
Why she came to Nairobi
Despite the currency shock, the creator made clear that Kenyans had a big hand in motivating her visit.
She revealed that a post of hers had earned 100,000 likes within 24 hours, with the bulk of that engagement coming from Kenyan audiences. On top of that, she gained 30,000 new followers from Kenya in a short space of time.
"Kenyans supported me so much," she said. "That's why I said let me come to Nairobi." The video was filmed as she toured the Kamakis area, accompanied by friends she referred to as Diana and Daisy.
