The Anti-Corruption Court has sentenced Ibrahim Kavuuma to three and a half years in prison for his role in a property fraud scheme that allegedly saw a victim lose $205,556 (about Shs740 million).
The court also ordered Kavuuma to refund Shs70 million to the victim and forfeited cash amounting to Shs8 million, $2,000 and a motor vehicle recovered from him during his arrest.
The forfeited money and vehicle are to be used to compensate the victim, according to the prosecution.
The case stems from an incident on July 15, 2025, when Kavuuma and other suspects, who remain at large, allegedly used forged property documents to convince the victim that he was the rightful owner of the property.
The documents included a certificate of title, sale agreements and transfer forms, which were allegedly used to facilitate the fraudulent transaction.
“Through the fraudulent scheme, Kavuuma and his accomplices obtained USD 205,556, equivalent to approximately UGX 740 million, from the victim,” the prosecution stated.
Kavuuma was subsequently arrested by the Anti-Corruption Unit and charged with forgery, uttering false documents, obtaining money by false pretence and money laundering.
“The court also ordered Kavuuma to refund Shs70 million to the victim,” the prosecution said.
The court further ordered the forfeiture of Shs8,004,700, $2,000 and a motor vehicle recovered during his arrest, with the assets intended to contribute towards compensating the victim.
“The recovered assets are to be used towards compensating the victim,” the prosecution added.
The other suspects implicated in the alleged scheme remain at large.
