Two members of the South African Police Service (SAPS), Constable Zenzile Ntuli and CAC Vusi Skosana, have died in a head-on collision involving a truck while returning home after participating in the Jacaranda Marathon in Pretoria.
The South African Police Service disclosed this in a post on X, saying the fatal accident occurred on Saturday, October 24, 2026, along the R573 Moloto Road, near Big Tree Mall. Three people, including the two police officers, were involved in the collision.
According to the police, Ntuli, who was stationed at the Roodeplaat Academy, and Skosana, attached to the Kwa-Mhlanga Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit, died at the scene.
Both officers were dedicated athletes who represented the police service in marathon competitions.
Skosana represented the SAPS Mpumalanga team and completed the Jacaranda Marathon in five hours, 10 minutes and 25 seconds, while Ntuli represented the SAPS Head Office, finishing in four hours, 40 minutes and 43 seconds.
The police said the two officers had participated in the SAPS National Marathon Championships held in the North West Province on October 17, a week before the fatal accident.
At the championship, Ntuli earned the award for First Master Female Athlete.
The SAPS National Marathon Association described their deaths as a devastating loss to the police athletics community, noting that their dedication, discipline and sporting achievements had inspired fellow officers.
“Their untimely passing is a devastating loss to the SAPS athletics fraternity,” the association said.
It added that both officers were passionate athletes whose contributions extended beyond their policing duties.
The association also extended its condolences to the families, friends, colleagues and teammates of the deceased, expressing sympathy over the loss of the two members of its sporting community.
