“Egypt called for intensified efforts to contain conflicts and prioritize dialogue and preventive diplomacy, particularly in West Asia and the Middle East,” Deputy Foreign Minister Mohamed Abu Bakr said on Saturday, October 17, 2026.
Addressing the seventh summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA) in Baku, Abu Bakr reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to dialogue, state sovereignty and the peaceful settlement of disputes.
He said that the Palestinian Cause remained central to Egypt’s diplomatic efforts, including consolidating the Gaza ceasefire, facilitating negotiations and advancing an agreed roadmap to end the conflict. He also called for unhindered humanitarian aid to Gaza and rejected the forced displacement of Palestinians, stressing the need for a two-state solution.
Abu Bakr said Egypt was intensifying contacts with regional and international partners to ease tensions following the recent war involving Iran and reiterated Cairo’s condemnation of attacks targeting Gulf states.
He also urged stronger economic and investment ties between Africa and Asia.
