Nicolò Tresoldi scored a hat-trick to inspire Club Brugge to a thrilling 4-3 victory over Inter Milan in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night.
The German forward also made history with his performance, becoming the youngest German player to score a hat-trick in the Champions League at the age of 22 years and 54 days.
Club Brugge claimed all three points at the San Siro after an entertaining encounter in which Tresoldi scored three times, while Romeo Vermant added another goal to hand Inter a defeat despite their efforts to fight back.
Inter’s Lautaro Martínez scored twice, while Ange-Yoan Bonny also found the net, but the hosts could not prevent the Belgian side from securing a memorable away victory.
Club Brugge took the lead in the 29th minute when Tresoldi converted a penalty after Hakan Çalhanoğlu fouled Carlos Forbs during a counterattack. Forbs had sprinted into Inter’s penalty area before the midfielder’s challenge brought him down, allowing the visitors to move ahead from the spot.
Inter thought they had equalised through Martínez earlier in the first half, but the Argentine’s effort was ruled out for offside.

The hosts eventually drew level in the 44th minute when Martínez finished a move involving Marcus Thuram and Federico Dimarco to make it 1-1 before the interval.
However, Club Brugge regained the advantage after the restart as Tresoldi struck again in the 63rd minute. The forward capitalised on an attacking move initiated by Forbs to put the visitors ahead for the second time.
Tresoldi completed his hat-trick in the 74th minute after Inter goalkeeper Josep Martínez failed to deal convincingly with the ball, allowing the striker to take advantage and extend Club Brugge’s lead to 3-1.
Inter refused to surrender, with Martínez reducing the deficit in the 81st minute to give the hosts renewed hope of salvaging a result.
Club Brugge restored their two-goal cushion in the 87th minute when substitute Romeo Vermant scored to make it 4-2, putting the visitors within touching distance of victory.
Bonny struck in stoppage time to reduce the deficit to 4-3, setting up a tense finish at the San Siro. However, Club Brugge held on through the closing moments to secure the victory.
The result marked a significant response from Club Brugge after their opening-match defeat to Aston Villa, while Inter suffered another setback following their loss to Real Madrid in their first league-phase fixture.
