Bangladesh’s pacer Hasan Mahmud made history twice in a single day during the ongoing Test against Afghanistan.
After becoming the first Bangladeshi pacer to claim a Test hat-trick, he set another record by becoming the fastest Bangladeshi pacer to reach the milestone of 50 Test wickets. Hasan achieved this feat in just his 17th match against Afghanistan.
Previously, the record for the fastest Bangladeshi pacer to claim 50 Test wickets was captured by Taskin Ahmed, who reached the milestone in 18 Tests.
Now, right-armer Hasan has surpassed him by achieving the feat in one fewer match.
It took former Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza 19 Tests to claim 50 wickets, while Shahadat Hossain Rajib reached the 50-wicket mark in his 21st Test.
Among Bangladeshi pacers, Mashrafe was the first to reach the milestone of 50 Test wickets. He achieved this feat in a Test match against Australia in Fatullah in 2006.
Subsequently, Shahadat completed his 50 wickets during a Test against Sri Lanka in Chattogram in 2009.
Taskin also claimed his 50th Test wicket against Pakistan in May of this year. Now, Hasan has broken that record, reaching the milestone as the fastest pacer from Bangladesh.
Mashrafe still holds the record for the most Test wickets among Bangladeshi pacers, with a tally of 78.
Shahadat sits in second place with 72 wickets. Taskin has claimed 59 wickets, while Hasan has reached the 50-wicket mark.
