Veteran broadcast journalist Christiane Amanpour has announced that she will separate from CNN "after 43 fantastic years.
"I want to give some news about myself and this program. After thinking carefully for several months and experiencing a few sleepless nights, if you can imagine, I have decided to separate from CNN, my partner of 43 fantastic years," Amanpour said in a video posted on her social media account.
"Longer than many marriages" she added.
She said that her daily show on CNN and PBS will end by December 2026.
"But CNN and I have worked out a smooth transition while continuing doing "Amanpour" once a week through to June," she said.
"Now, there is no "I" in team, and my whole career has been team work, to make the dream work. So I want to thank all the amazingly talented people I worked with throughout this incredible journey. Especially, my beloved show team and field crew," she added.
A legend, Amanpour mentioned some of her unforgettable news stories, "From my very first big exciting assignment covering the First Gulf War, to the horrors of the Bosnian War, Rwanda, Afghanistan, Iran, Ukraine and all the points in between, it’s the teams and the camaraderie that counted so much."
"As we together battled to find the facts, to bring you the evidence and the humanity, so that CNN could always broadcast the truth throughout the world, without fear nor favor.”
Amanpour assured that she will remain, as she has always been, "fiercely independent, for as long as I am here and beyond."
"That is especially important today as we face unprecedented pressures from all sides, political, financial and also from the rising dangers in the field," she said, adding that she will continue to support CNN.
"And, finally, thank you all for watching, listening, and engaging with me for all these years. For trusting me and this show. — BAP, GMA News
