IMPHAL, Oct 13 : Tension erupted at RIMS Hospital today after a woman died following childbirth.
Alleging medical negligence, the deceased woman's family said they would not claim her body until the doctors concerned apologised.
It is reported that some areas of the hospital were vandalised in the protest.
The deceased has been identified as Pukhrambam ningol Thokchom ongbi Binaroi (25), wife of Thokchom Marson (23), a resident of Keishampat Jailor Leirak.
Speaking to the media, Marson said that his wife was admitted to the hospital yesterday on the advice of the doctor they consulted.
He said that his wife gave birth to a child around midnight, although the delivery was expected to take place this morning, as her condition had deteriorated.
Although a normal delivery was initially planned, she underwent surgery after three bottles of blood were administered, he said.
Saying that his wife was kept inside the operation theatre for a long time, he claimed that the doctor they had consulted was not involved in the operation.
He further said that his wife was admitted to the ICU at around 6 am due to blood loss and the doctors informed him of her death at around 1 pm.
Claiming that the doctors had informed him that his wife had no serious health issues before the surgery, he alleged that there was medical negligence.
He said that he would not claim the body until the doctors concerned admitted their alleged mistakes and tendered an apology.
