HONG KONG: Veteran actress Eva Lai Yin Shan, who made headlines last month when she announced her engagement to her non-celebrity partner, has shared the details of his romantic proposal.
In a recent interview with Ming Pao Weekly, the 62-year-old TVB star revealed that her fiancé—a former businessman nine years her senior—proposed during a holiday in Sabah in front of close friends.
Describing the heartwarming moment, Lai recalled how her partner secretly arranged the whole surprise in advance.
He stepped forward with a bouquet of roses and a ring to pop the question, surrounded by their inner circle.
The couple plan to tie the knot next year on the exact anniversary of their very first date two years ago.
Although they have known each other through church for over two decades, their relationship only grew stronger after she turned to him for support and prayers during a difficult time in her life.
After divorcing actor Tony Liu in 2004, Lai spent many years as a single mother.
She raised her two children alone and managed all the household responsibilities herself.
Finding a thoughtful and caring partner has brought her deep comfort, finally allowing her to relax and rely on someone else.
The couple intend to keep their wedding low-key, choosing a small gathering with close family and friends rather than a lavish party.
Reflecting on her journey after so much past heartache, Lai admitted she once wondered if she would ever find love again at this stage in life.
She added: "You can fall in love even at 80."
