Nakuru's political inner circle had a quiet but revealing weekend, and a simple social media post from Sam Mburu ended up shining a spotlight on one of Rongai's most striking new properties.

Mburu, who is married to Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika, shared that he had paid a courtesy call to his brother, Principal Secretary for the State Department of Lands and Physical Planning, Nixon Korir, at his home in Rongai, Nakuru County. Langata MP Felix Oduor Jalang'o accompanied him on the visit.
"This afternoon i paid a courtesy call to my brother Hon Nixon Korir, PS State Department of Lands at his Rongai Home, Nakuru County. With me was Langata MP Hon Felix Oduor Jalango Mwenyewe. Thank you for hosting us Bwana PS. Kongoi," Mburu wrote in his post.

The caption was understated, but the home visible in the photographs told a far bigger story.
An old departure from the old guard's taste
Rather than the colonial-era stone buildings that have long been associated with Rift Valley political figures, PS Korir has opted for something entirely different. His villa is a sleek, flat-roofed modern structure with expansive floor-to-ceiling folding glass doors framed in black steel. The doors open fully, dissolving the boundary between the interior living space and the outdoor terrace.
A wide roof overhang, supported by thick cream pillars, creates a generous shaded veranda that appears built for exactly the kind of leisurely, high-powered gathering that took place this weekend.
The terrace is finished with large-format light grey polished tiles and floating steps leading down to the compound. Mixed stone cladding in grey and beige tones lines the base of the structure, lending it the feel of a boutique resort rather than a typical politician's home.
Rongai's rising status
The real showpiece, however, may be the view. Korir's home sits on an elevated plot in Rongai, looking out over the valley towards the distant hills and sweeping green plains that make Nakuru County so visually distinctive.
Rongai, once considered a small town on the outskirts of Nakuru, is increasingly being compared to Nairobi's Karen suburb in terms of where the county's elite are choosing to settle. Mburu himself owns a multi-million-shilling property in Ngata, Rongai, just a short drive away.
In the photos, all four men are barefoot on the polished terrace tiles, a detail that speaks to both the immaculate finish of the home and the relaxed, brotherly nature of the visit.
Who is Nixon Korir?
Korir is a familiar name in Kenyan political circles. He served as Langata MP from 2017 to 2022 and has deep roots in President William Ruto's network, having worked as Ruto's Personal Assistant between 2010 and 2011 when Ruto was Eldoret North MP.
He studied at Moi High School Kabarak, graduating in 2004, before earning a law degree from the University of Nairobi in 2011, during which time he also served as SONU Secretary General. President Ruto appointed him PS for Lands in 2022.
With Jalang'o and Sam Mburu both making the trip to Rongai, it is clear the suburb has become more than just a residential address for Nakuru's political class.
