Alabama Shakes things up again
Brittany Howard, whose Grammy-winning band Alabama Shakes just dropped their first album in 11 years, reminisced about when they started out. “Our first show was about 30 minutes long and we played a bunch of covers,” she said at the intimate Soho Sessions show, where the crowd included David Schwimmer, Christy Turlington, Susie Essman, Chris Meloni, Kim Cattrall and Edie Falco. “It was my first time singing and getting paid. We got $200, and I was like, ‘Wow.’ To me, that was a light bill, an electric bill. I didn’t know I could do something I loved and could also get paid for it.”
Ramos raises a glass
Grammy winner and “In the Heights” star Anthony Ramos was spotted celebrating his feature on Pitbull’s new album, “Pitcoin,” at the opening of Verde restaurant in the Meatpacking District. A source tells us Ramos, with a group that included “Roll Bounce” actor Rick Gonzalez, “was at a VIP table near the DJ. A Champagne magnum bottle presentation came out for Anthony to celebrate his single,” called “Por Tenerte.” Also at the bash were model Ambra Gutierrez, designer Frederick Anderson, Serafina’s Vittorio Assaf, music exec Charlie Walk and musician Scott Lipps.
Scene stealer
Knicks nut John Turturro is still seeing the world through the lens of the 2026 NBA Finals. The acting legend told Page Six at a New York Film Festival screening of his new movie “The Only Living Pickpocket in New York” that being in the movie “was a wonderful moment for me. Sometimes things don’t come together, and like the Knicks winning, there was a chemistry. This film is indicative of having chemistry.” He added, “We pulled it off.” Turturro joined Giancarlo Esposito, Frances McDormand and Joel Coen, Ethan Coen, Edie Falco and studio heads Michael Barker and Tom Bernard at the screening’s after-party, hosted by Sony Pictures Classics and Cinema Society at Rampoldi on the Upper West Side.
Humm’s new home
Want the thrill of Eleven Madison Park without the hassle of needing to have a wedding anniversary or graduating college? Humm may be for you! Chef Daniel Humm, who has racked up three Michelin stars at the vaunted Flatiron institution, just opened a spot bearing his name at 435 Hudson St. in the West Village. When we asked how people should build it into their plans, he said, “If you’re celebrating a milestone and want the full fine-dining experience, book EMP,” but for “a more spontaneous night,” book Humm. But, he added, “the ambition is the same, and so is the obsession with ingredients and getting the smallest things right.”
Monk-y business
The Franciscan Friars of the Atonement honored John Catsimatidis’ wife, Margo, with its Graymoor Sharing Hope Award at the Annual Sharing Hope Celebration at the Pierre, we hear. Margo said she accepted it “with great humility because [it] is really about the people who inspire us to make a difference in the lives of others.” With her husband standing nearby, she added, “The Friars have helped thousands upon thousands of people, and tonight is one of those rare times they are recognized.” Margo then quipped dinner was taking a while “because they don’t get out much — they’re always helping people!”
A note of regret
Will Arnett told us he wishes his parents had forced him to play an instrument as a child. At the New Year Film Festival premiere of his new movie “Behemoth!,” in which Arnett (above) is the brother of a renowned cellist played by Pedro Pascal, he quipped, “I wish my parents had done a better job with me.” Arnett confessed he got a little street cred with his two older boys when he voiced Batman in “The Lego Movie.” “Especially when the first movie came out and my youngest was 6 and my oldest was just 8, perfect age,” he said.
Social anxiety
Jeremy Allen White plays Wall Street Journal reporter Jeff Horwitz, who helped uncover a Facebook scandal, in “The Social Reckoning” and says he’s not too keen on social media. “I find it very scary,” he told PageSix.com’s Nicki Gostin at the premiere of the Aaron Sorkin-helmed movie. “Especially for young people, for children. My kids are already aware of all this stuff, and they’re 5 and 7. I want young kids to be able to live in as small a world as possible for as long as possible, to get to understand themselves and know themselves before an algorithm or prompt is telling them how they should look, how they should be.” His co-star, Mikey Madison, isn’t active on social media and doesn’t have an Instagram account — despite playing Frances Haugen, a Facebook engineer and whistleblower. “When I was a little girl, like maybe 13, I like dipped my toe in the water and tried it,” she said, but gave it up. “It lived and died with me when I was 15,” the Oscar winner added. “I don’t have any personal relationship with social media, and I haven’t for the majority of my life. And it’s just a personal choice that I’ve made.”
Good 4… who?
Be careful, famous people, because you might get what you wish for. We’re told Olivia Rodrigo ended up dating financier Julian Croonenberghs because she told pals she was tired of seeing celebrities and wanted to date a “normal guy.” (Rodrigo had been with Geese singer Cameron Winter, “Enola Holmes” star Louis Partridge and Disney co-star Ethan Wacker, among other off-puttingly talented and wealthy types.) But as “normal women” could have told the “Driver’s License” singer (above), dating normal guys isn’t the ceaseless shower of pleasure and joy it sounds like it’ll be. They’ve already broken up. Croonenberghs had worked at Goldman Sachs and now works for private equity firm Hg.
Spy glasses clink
Legendary Spy magazine held its 40th anniversary bash at the Waverly Inn Thursday night. Founding editors Kurt Andersen and Graydon Carter and publisher Tom Phillips mingled with former staff and friends, including Nell Scovell, Air Mail writer Michael Hainey, “Slab Rat” author Ted Heller, “I Dream of Joni” author Henry Alford, Aimée Bell of Simon and Schuster, “Hollywood High” author Bruce Handy and “Lorne: The Man Who Invented Saturday Night Live” author Susan Morrison. After everyone belted out a version of “My Way” rewritten as “Spy Way,” the gang gathered outside for a group pic. The satirical magazine ran from 1986 to 1998 and was famous for its irreverent hit pieces on the high and mighty.
