A Cuban woman living in Miami recently took to TikTok to share her experience at Mesón del Príncipe, a restaurant in Camagüey, Cuba. Her group ended up spending $90 on a generous meal that included beers, cocktails, meats, ceviches, and desserts. So, was it worth the price?
Through her TikTok account @mily_pastel, she showcased the variety of dishes and drinks they ordered during their visit.
"We got carried away and had 10 beers, two piña coladas, two micheladas, and two caipirinhas," she recounted, showing off part of their consumption.
As for the food, she listed four fish croquettes, five ceviches, seven steaks, four salads, one Uruguayan steak, ropa vieja, and French fries.
"We ordered an Uruguayan steak that was super tasty, the cheese perfectly melted, and a delicious ropa vieja. I laughed a lot here because my dear Javita is never missing," she commented with a chuckle.
The group also enjoyed natural lemonades, sodas, and a variety of desserts, including a flan described as "super creamy" and a chocolate cake that was "on another level."
Located at Astilleros Street No. 7 in Camagüey, the restaurant is listed on Tripadvisor with a price range of $$–$$$.
What stands out the most is the total bill, which, according to the TikToker, was $90 for all the food and drinks.
To put this into perspective, considering the informal exchange rate of 818 Cuban pesos (CUP) per dollar, as recorded on October 20, this would amount to approximately 73,620 CUP.
Earlier that day, the dollar hit 817 CUP, amid rising costs of foreign currencies in Cuba's informal market.
This amount starkly contrasts with the earnings of workers paid in the national currency. Under the Ministry of Labor and Social Security's Resolution 14/2026, the minimum monthly wage in Cuba is set at 3,210 CUP, effective from July 2026.
Thus, the $90 spent on the meal equates to nearly 23 monthly minimum wages in Cuba, a significant difference for those relying solely on Cuban pesos.
Price tags at Cuban restaurants have sparked debates on social media before. In October 2025, a Cuban couple shared their $89 dinner bill from one of El Vedado's priciest restaurants.
Similarly, in March 2026, another video showed the cost of dining at one of Havana's more affordable restaurants, where a meal for two was around $26.
Would you be willing to pay $90 for such a meal and drinks at a Cuban restaurant? Is it a fair deal or overpriced?
