Over 300 people were prosecuted for violating traffic rules, and over three litres of illicit liquor were seized across the city on Panchami.
The prosecution figure would rise further in the days ahead, police said.
Figures released by Kolkata Police said 92 motorists were prosecuted for riding without a helmet and 65 for rash driving across 28 divisions of Kolkata Police covering the city and its adjoining areas.
“Over 60 persons were prosecuted for drunken driving and 35 persons for triple riding on two-wheelers,” a senior officer said.
Beginning Wednesday, Kolkata Police have deployed 12,000 personnel for traffic and crowd management.
“While separate teams are on duty to manage the crowd and ensure security, traffic police officers have been deployed at strategic locations to ensure that motorists don’t flout rules,” the officer said.
On Friday, traffic management began in the late afternoon, and by evening senior officers were deployed at all key intersections and thoroughfares across the city.
