Weather conditions in the Dominican Republic this Sunday will be influenced by a trough that favors downpours, thunderstorms, and wind gusts in different parts of the country, according to the Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet).
The agency explained that the trough is positioned to increase atmospheric instability, raising cloud cover and rainfall in several regions of the country.
Rainfall could reach moderate intensity in certain areas, especially during the hottest hours of the day.
Where will it rain this Sunday?
According to weather forecasts, rainfall will mainly affect the northeast, southeast, and southwest regions, as well as parts of the southern slope of the Central mountain range.
The forecast indicates that the trough, daytime heating, and Dominican terrain conditions will favor the development of clouds capable of producing downpours accompanied by thunderstorms and wind gusts.
For Greater Santo Domingo, pay attention to weather updates, given the rains recorded in previous days.
Although rainfall will not necessarily occur continuously throughout the entire country, some locations could experience episodes of considerable intensity.
Temperatures will continue to be hot
Despite the increased rainfall, much of the country will remain hot.
Maximum temperatures forecast for the weekend range between 32 and 34 degrees Celsius, while minimum temperatures are between 23 and 25 degrees.
The combination of heat and humidity could produce a high heat index, mainly in the morning and midday.
For this reason, the population is advised to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged sun exposure, especially during peak radiation hours.
Caution due to possible flooding
Meteorological authorities are closely monitoring areas vulnerable to urban flooding, river overflows, and flash floods in streams and ravines due to the accumulated rainfall over the last few days.
Indomet maintained weather alerts in several provinces throughout Saturday, so it is important to check updates from the agency and the Emergency Operations Center (COE) before going outdoors.
People living in communities near bodies of water should avoid crossing rivers or streams with significantly increased flow.
Likewise, drivers should exercise extreme caution on roads and streets where water may have accumulated.
Will it be possible to enjoy the beaches this Sunday?
Those planning to visit beaches, rivers, or resorts should check local conditions before traveling.
Although some areas may see periods of sunshine, the forecast anticipates changes in atmospheric conditions and possible thunderstorms.
In the event of lightning or thunderstorms, suspend aquatic activities and seek refuge in safe places.
Indomet will continue to monitor the trough’s evolution and weather conditions that could affect different provinces on Sunday.
