Tracking down the cheapest online food shop can feel like a maze of endless tab-switching.
But now, the results are in, and the supermarket offering the cheapest online grocery basket has been named.
Amazon Fresh has beaten traditional supermarket rivals, taking first place in the latest Grocer 33 price comparison survey.
The Grocer ranks retailers every week, comparing the price of a 33 item weekly food basket, which includes products such as smoked salmon, cauliflower and Robinson’s fruit cordial.
The most recent results, for the week commencing Monday October 12, reveals that an Amazon Fresh basket cost £71.52 — 11% cheaper than any of its rivals.
It offered the lowest price on 25 items in the basket, and was the only retailer to offer the cheapest prices for sugar snap peas (£1) and Sacla’ pesto (£2.39).
In second place was Ocado, with a basket costing £81.02, and Asda came in third, at £81.66.
Amazon Fresh operates online-only after announcing the permanent closure of all 19 of its physical Amazon Fresh grocery stores in the UK last September, shifting its focus entirely online.
Currently, it sells both own-brand items, as well as products from Morrisons, Iceland, Booths, Co-op, and brands such as Kellogg’s and Hovis.
Meanwhile Ocado is perhaps best known for offering M&S products online, as well as other staple brands.
Their second place came from leaning heavily on a 15.6% promotional discounts week, which included price cuts on Costa instant coffee and New York Bakery Co bagels.
These promos meant Ocado was 9% cheaper than last week, and 2.3% cheaper in a year
Ocado also claimed six of the cheapest items, which helped edge it towards second place.

The best of the rest
Budget champions Aldi and Lidl, named the top two cheapest supermarkets for September 2026 by Which?, don’t offer their own home delivery, leaving the higher budget supermarkets and online retailers to battle it out.
Of the major supermarkets, Asda had a total of £81.86, with 16 lowest prices, but had no items available where it exclusively offered the cheapest price.
Closely following, the online basket from Sainsbury’s totalled £82.06, with Nectar member savings.
The supermarket also claimed the cheapest price for Rowntree’s Randoms and Hovis loaf.
Tesco took fifth place, with a basket total of £84.34, and was exclusively the cheapest for coffee and Cathedral City cheddar.
The second most expensive basket went to Morrisons, which had a total of £87.72.
But it was posh supermarket Waitrose that had the most expensive total, with £98.69, making it a 38% pricier than Amazon.
Waitrose, named the most expensive supermarket for September 2026 by Which?, matched the lowest price on only one item, Method surface cleaner (could you get any fancier?).
