Agartala, October 14, 2026: The Tripura’s State Election Commission on Wednesday reviewed preparations for the upcoming elections to 21 municipal and urban local bodies in Tripura at an all-party meeting, urging political parties and stakeholders to cooperate in ensuring free, fair and peaceful polling.
The meeting, chaired by the State Election Commissioner, was attended by two representatives from each political party. Discussions covered election preparedness, polling infrastructure, nomination procedures, the Model Code of Conduct, voter lists, reservation of seats and security arrangements.
Briefing the media after the meeting, the State Election Commissioner said it was the first all-party meeting convened to assess preparations for the municipal elections. The participants reviewed the progress of work at the district level and measures undertaken by the Urban Development Department.
He said that work on electoral rolls, the identification of polling stations and the finalisation of voter lists was progressing alongside other preparatory activities. The first-level checking (FLC) of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) is also underway in different districts in the presence of government officials and representatives of political parties. The process is expected to be completed by Thursday.
The meeting also discussed the procedures for filing, scrutinising and withdrawing nominations, along with the responsibilities of political parties and government officials after the election schedule is announced.
Security arrangements featured prominently during the discussions, with political party representatives seeking the deployment of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), state police and other central forces to maintain law and order during the polls.
According to the State Election Commissioner, the Acting Director General of Police has discussed the possibility of deploying central forces already stationed in Tripura for election duties. The DGP will also communicate with the Home Department regarding the requirement for additional central forces.
Representatives of various political parties also raised concerns over seat reservation and the electoral rolls. Officials from the concerned departments, including the Acting DGP and the Secretary of the State Election Commission, were present at the meeting.
The elections will cover 21 municipal and urban bodies across Tripura, including the Agartala Municipal Corporation. The Commission has appealed to all political parties to maintain peace, uphold electoral norms and extend cooperation throughout the election process.
The State Election Commission reiterated its commitment to conducting the municipal elections in a peaceful, fair and transparent manner, stressing the importance of cooperation among political parties, administration and other stakeholders.
