Ronald Araujo has made an encouraging start to life at Liverpool, with the Barcelona loanee opening his scoring account for the Reds during their emphatic 6-3 Champions League victory over LASK.
The Uruguay international was named in the starting XI once again and made his mark midway through the first half, rising above the defence to power home a header from a corner delivered from the left.
It was a significant moment for the defender, who has now established himself as a regular option since arriving at Anfield on loan in the summer.
Araujo’s opener gave Liverpool the lead and helped set the tone for an entertaining European contest.
The Reds soon extended their advantage, with Bradley Barcola also scoring his first goal for the club just two minutes later before adding another ahead of half-time to make it 3-0.
Ronald Araujo opens Liverpool account against LASK
Araujo’s first Liverpool goal was a reward for his growing involvement in the team.
The defender showed his aerial strength and timing to meet the corner, giving the goalkeeper little chance with a powerful finish.
The result against LASK also provided another opportunity for Araujo to demonstrate his value on the European stage.
Having featured in both of Liverpool’s Champions League matches so far, he is becoming an increasingly familiar presence in the starting line-up.
Barcelona loanee becomes regular option at Anfield
Araujo has enjoyed a busy start to his loan spell, featuring in the Premier League, Champions League and English League Cup.
He has accumulated 602 minutes across competitions, underlining the amount of responsibility he has already been given.
His versatility has also proved useful, as the Uruguayan has been deployed at both centre-back and right-back, allowing the coaching staff to use his defensive strength in different areas of the back line.
Notably, his appearances in Europe suggest he has earned the trust of the coaching staff, while his domestic involvement has also helped him settle into the demands of English football.
Araujo’s Liverpool form offers encouragement
Araujo’s opening goal against LASK takes his early Liverpool contribution to one goal and one assist.
His assist came in the Champions League against Atletico Madrid, meaning he has already contributed directly to goals in Europe.
For Barcelona, his progress will be worth monitoring as the season develops, as there are high chances that Liverpool might as well opt to pay the agreed fee to make his transfer permanent.
However, that depends on how the season progresses.
