Addis Ababa, October 15, 2026 (FMC) — National Bank of Ethiopia Governor Eyob Tekalign has advocated a more responsive international financial architecture that enables developing countries to move beyond debt distress and sustainably finance their development priorities.
He made the case while delivering a keynote address at a high-level roundtable titled “Life After Debt: How Can Countries Recover and Grow Post-Crises?”, organized by the Finance for Development Lab on the sidelines of the ongoing IMF–World Bank Group Annual Meetings in Bangkok, Thailand.
Drawing on Ethiopia’s experience, Eyob emphasized that resolving debt distress is only the first step toward long-term recovery. He stressed that timely debt relief, creditor coordination and credible macroeconomic reforms must pave the way for renewed investment and sustainable economic growth.
The Governor reaffirmed Ethiopia’s commitment to building a more resilient, competitive and investment-driven economy.
