BATU PAHAT: A 16-year-old boy who died when a family car skidded and crashed into a tree in Bagan here last night had bought birthday gifts for his younger sister just hours before the tragedy.
Putera Muhaimin Qudrat Mohd Noorwandi had bought the gifts during a family dinner outing in town, hoping to give them to his sister, Puteri Nur Fairuza Balqis, 15, when they returned home.
His father, Mohd Noorwandi A Rahim, 41, said his son never got the chance to fulfil that wish.
"He bought several gifts for his sister's birthday, intending to hand them to her as soon as we reached home. Sadly, he never made it back," he said.
Noorwandi added that his son had shown exceptional generosity towards his mother, Norfarahin Mohammad, 38, just two days before his death.
Putera Muhaimin, a Form Four student at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Semerah, was buried at the Parit Bajuri Muslim cemetery here at 2pm today.
A sombre atmosphere hung over the cemetery as family members, relatives and close friends gathered to pay their last respects. His body had undergone a post-mortem at the forensic department of Sultanah Nora Ismail Hospital (HSNI), which was completed at 11.30am.
In the 10pm accident, the car carrying Putera Muhaimin and his family skidded off Jalan Johor Baru-Melaka before crashing into a tree.
Three of his siblings, aged 15, 11 and three, were injured, while his uncle, Nor Azlan Shaharudin, 27, who was driving, was seriously injured after being trapped in the driver's seat. He is receiving treatment at HSNI.
