1That opening had us asking questions
Mitti De Baway wastes no time pulling viewers into its mystery. Baala, played by Wahaj Ali, is released from prison, only for the story to take a shocking turn. The narrative then moves back in time, leaving us wondering how a seemingly passionate love story could possibly lead to such a dark outcome. And that question alone is enough to keep us watching.
2Mahira Khan and Wahaj Ali have finally arrived as a pair
There was enormous curiosity around seeing Mahira Khan and Wahaj Ali together, and the drama has made good use of that anticipation. As Billo and Baala, the two share an easy emotional connection that makes their early romance convincing. But what makes their pairing more interesting is knowing from the beginning that something goes terribly wrong. Every tender moment therefore carries an underlying sense of dread.
3It is much more than a love story
At first glance, Mitti De Baway may look like a sweeping romance, but there is considerably more happening underneath. Class, family honour, social expectations, power and resentment all become part of Baala and Billo’s story. The differences between their worlds are not simply there to create romantic conflict. They influence the choices people make and gradually transform relationships that once seemed uncomplicated.
4The Punjabi setting gives it a distinct identity
One of the drama’s biggest strengths is how confidently it embraces its cultural setting. The Punjabi dialogue, costumes, homes, weddings, landscapes and traditions give the series a sense of place that feels integral to the story. There is also something wonderfully nostalgic about the world it creates. Rather than feeling like a drama dressed up in a regional setting, Mitti De Baway genuinely feels rooted in its surroundings.
5Samiya Mumtaz is proving her versatility yet again
Samiya Mumtaz’s Mai Phatan is one of the performances that immediately stands out. She has completely immersed herself in the character, from her appearance and body language to her voice and mannerisms. There is an intensity to her performance that makes even her quieter moments compelling. After seeing her take on such a wide range of characters over the years, Mai Phatan is yet another reminder of just how versatile Samiya Mumtaz is. She does not simply play the character; she disappears into her.
6The story keeps making us wait for answers
Mitti De Baway understands the value of withholding information. Rather than explaining every relationship and conflict immediately, the drama slowly reveals pieces of the past. Every episode gives us another clue about Baala and Billo, while simultaneously raising another question. Just when we think we understand one character’s motivations, another detail changes the picture.
7We actually care about what happens next
Perhaps the biggest reason we are hooked is the simplest one: we want answers. What really happened between Baala and Billo? How did their relationship fall apart? Who is telling the truth? And how much of the past will eventually come back to haunt the characters? Mitti De Baway has created enough emotional investment and mystery to make those questions matter. With its strong performances, atmospheric setting and complicated love story, the drama has already given viewers plenty to talk about. And if these opening episodes are anything to go by, there is a lot more drama still waiting to unfold.
