Eagles Add Former 49ers RB Amid Serious Injury Issues

The Philadelphia Eagles are hurting at the running back position, dealing with multiple serious injury issues.

Starting running back Saquon Barkley has missed each of the Eagles' last two games as he deals with a hamstring strain. Backup RB options Will Shipley (foot) and Tank Bigsby (abdomen) are both on the injured reserve as they recover from issues of their own.

Carson Steele suffered a right shoulder injury early in Sunday's Week 6 loss to the Carolina Panthers, leaving Dameon Pierce and Jaydon Blue as the team's only remaining healthy running backs.

On Tuesday, the Eagles waived both Blue and Steele. However, the team also signed veteran ball carrier Elijah Mitchell to the practice squad.

Mitchell spent the first three seasons of his NFL career with the San Francisco 49ers, recording 1,523 rushing yards and nine rushing touchdowns through 27 game appearances. Last year, he appeared in one regular-season game as a running back for the Kansas City Chiefs.

The injury-ridden Eagles will face off against the division-rival Dallas Cowboys with a "Monday Night Football" matchup in Week 7.
