KUALA LUMPUR: Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB) and MRT Corp have partnered to provide indoor 5G connectivity at the Rapid Transit System's (RTS) Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security complex (ICQC) in Johor Bahru.
The collaboration aims to provide comprehensive indoor 5G coverage across the RTS' ICQC complex, allowing commuters to access reliable connectivity and digital services, including ticketing, navigation, communications and mobile transactions.
The partnership was formalised through a memorandum of understanding exchanged between DNB chief executive officer Datuk Azman Ismail and MRT Corp chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Zarif Hashim at Transport Expo Asia 2026 today.
Azman said the RTS Link complex offered an opportunity to demonstrate the benefits of seamless indoor 5G connectivity and improve the commuter experience.
"Together with MRT Corp and our mobile network operator shareholders, we look forward to delivering a better commuter experience while creating a model for broader indoor 5G adoption across transport hubs, commercial developments and public venues nationwide," he said.
Zarif said the focus was shifting toward preparing the RTS Link for passenger operations, with reliable digital connectivity forming an important part of the overall travel experience.
He said the partnership allows MRT Corp to better utilise its infrastructure while enabling passengers to remain connected as they move through the station and immigration facilities.
Through its unit Malaysia Rapid Transit System Sdn Bhd, MRT Corp is responsible for developing and owning the Malaysian infrastructure for the RTS, including the in-building telecommunications infrastructure at the Bukit Chagar ICQS complex.
MRT Corp, which is a licensed network facilities provider under the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, intends to commercialise these facilities by leasing infrastructure and telecommunications space to mobile network operators.
The strategy forms part of its efforts to generate sustainable non-fare revenue and maximise the long-term value of its infrastructure investments.
