Four people have been confirmed dead after a wall fence collapsed on two nearby houses in Bweyogerere, Wakiso District on Tuesday morning.
According to Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, the incident happened in Bbuto Zone, Bweyogerere Division, Kira Municipality in Wakiso district following a heavy downpour.
“Preliminary information indicates that heavy rainfall and flowing water from the premises of Delux Company exerted pressure on the company’s perimeter wall, causing it to collapse onto two nearby residential houses. The four occupants were reportedly killed instantly,” Owoyesigyire said.
“Preliminary findings indicate that Delux Company had recently acquired the factory and was undertaking renovation works, including grading the compound. Investigations are examining whether the works and the drainage arrangements contributed to the accumulation and flow of water that preceded the wall’s collapse.”
He identified the deceased as David Okoth ,25; Angella Inebe, 28; Lucy Alaba 28; and a juvenile child, the son of Lucy Alaba all of whom, occupants of the affected houses.
According to police, the landlord , Francis Ssenyonga sustained injuries and was rushed to a health facility for medical attention.
“Police responded to the incident, recorded statements from some witnesses, and conveyed the four bodies to the KCCA City Mortuary at Mulago pending post-mortem examinations.”
He however cautioned property owners, construction companies, and developers to ensure that their structures are sound and that adequate drainage systems are in place, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall.
“Developers are urged to assess the potential impact of construction and renovation works on neighbouring properties and take the necessary precautions to protect lives and property.”
The development comes at a time when heavy rains have started all over the country.
Experts recently warned that Uganda is currently experiencing the peak of an enhanced September–December 2026 rainy season driven by an intensifying El Niño phenomenon.
A September 2026 humanitarian snapshot by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs’ Regional Office for Eastern and Southern Africa (OCHA ROSEA) warned that the country could experience above-average rainfall, with up to a 90% probability of more than 400 millimetres of rain around Lake Victoria.
Experts also warned that the El Nino rains could destroy crops and livestock, disrupt access to markets and income, and increasing the risk of food insecurity and malnutrition.
Flooding could also trigger displacement, damage infrastructure and interrupt access to health services.
Previous El Niño events in 2015–2016 and 2023–2024 resulted in widespread flooding, displacement, livelihood losses and disease outbreaks across parts of the country.
