"I'm really scared. I have two boys who are 10 and 13 years old," says Kate.
She has just picked up one of her sons from school, which is right next to Kämpetorpshallen, where the 25-year-old woman was shot dead on Friday. Like many of the other children, one of her sons had been to a disco at the school that evening, and Kate picked him up shortly before the shooting.
It wasn't until Saturday morning that she realized something was wrong when she saw the police cars on the street. Kate feels that insecurity has increased recently and that this was noticeable even before the murder.
It used to be really nice here, but not now. We see police cars every day, she says and continues:
I don't let my kids out. When they want to play basketball, we go together. I'm with my kids all the time.
"Seen police patrolling"
Another woman living in the area, who wishes to remain anonymous, also says that the police presence has been more noticeable for some time.
"You've seen police patrolling here for several weeks, if not months," she says, standing by a football field next to Kämpetorpshallen and pointing towards a mobile surveillance camera set up by the police.
As for others living in the area, the incident meant that deadly violence found its way into her everyday life.
It's terrible. My daughter goes to preschool right next door.
Outside the entrance to the hall, the memorial site has filled up with flowers, candles and post-it notes with messages.
People in gray vests are also on site providing crisis support as part of the district administration's efforts, says Lee Orberson, district director of Hägersten-Älvsjö.
“Highly appreciated employee”
He has spent the last few days organizing crisis management. The fact that the murdered woman was part of the municipal youth activities makes the situation especially difficult, Orberson emphasizes.
This concerns a highly valued employee within our youth work, and it is both a complete tragedy for her family and has a profound impact on our work.
Despite the difficult situation, Lee Orberson highlights the crisis work as a bright spot.
"The most important thing is that we return to normality. That is what is absolutely safest for both children and adults," he says.
At around 9pm on Friday 16 October, a 25-year-old woman was shot in a sports hall in Älvsjö in southern Stockholm, where a football match was taking place in another part of the premises. She was taken to hospital and her injuries were described as serious.
Early Saturday morning, two teenage boys over the age of 15 were arrested. According to prosecutor Lukas Tigerstrand, neither of them is a resident of Stockholm, and they are not said to have any relationship with the victim.
On Saturday evening, police announced that the woman had died from her injuries.
Detention hearings for the two teenagers, who are suspected of murder, will be held on Tuesday. The prosecutor does not rule out that more people may be involved in the crime.
