Maja Chwalinska recently won her first WTA 1000 title at the Wuhan Open.
The Polish star proved that her run to the Roland Garros final earlier this year was far from a fluke, defeating Sonay Kartal 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 to claim the biggest title of her career to date.
Shortly after clinching the Chinese title, Chwalinska withdrew from her next scheduled event: the Ningbo Open.
Chwalinska, the world number 11, has now added a new tournament to her schedule, according to reports.
Maja Chwalinska is set to play the Toray Pan Pacific Open
Dominik Senkowski, one of the most reliable tennis journalists in the business, reported Chwalinska’s entry into the Toray Pan Pacific Open on Wednesday morning.
“Maja Chwalińska will play in Tokyo! Her manager, Piotr Szczypka, confirmed this to me,” Senkowski said in an X post translated from Polish.
“Maja has withdrawn from Ningbo, but she’ll rest and then compete in Japan. She’s never played in Tokyo before—it’s the last 500-level event.
“The entry list includes the likes of Bencic, Rybakina, Kostyuk, Mertens. The tournament kicks off on Monday.”
Chwalinska’s participation in the event can be confirmed when viewing the player list for the Japanese tournament, as the Polish star is now included.
As noted by Senkowski, a variety of high-profile athletes are set to compete in the WTA 500 event, which will take place from October 26 to November 1.
Elena Rybakina, the new world number one, is set to be the top seed in Tokyo. Alexandra Eala, Naomi Osaka, Elina Svitolina and Marta Kostyuk are all also set to participate.

The first Pan Pacific Open champion
Billie Jean King, one of the most iconic figures in tennis history, won the first-ever edition of the Pan Pacific Open in 1973.
The American star, an instrumental figure in the fight for equal pay between the sexes at Grand Slam events, defeated compatriot Nancy Richey Gunter in the final, 7–6, 5–7, 6–3
King went on to win a further two Pan Pacific Open titles, in 1979 and 1980.
Only Lindsay Davenport and Martina Hingis – with four and five titles, respectively – have been more successful in tournament history.
