(see related) (ANSA) - ROME, 21 OTT - The interior ministry is in the process of identifying the truckers who have been blocking roads in many parts of southern Italy over the last week to protest against soaring fuel prices, choking supplies to supermarkets and cutting off the arrival of raw materials to firms, Business and Made in Italy Minister Adolfo Urso said Wednesday.
"The Ministry of the Interior reports that identification efforts are underway, including for the purpose of removing the roadblocks," Urso told a question-time session in the Lower House.
"Preventing trucks from passing while allowing cars to proceed still constitutes a roadblock, with criminal consequences, including imprisonment.
"It is important—and I believe it is significant and symbolic—that the transporters' associations themselves are asking us, and are asking the Ministry of the Interior, to have the roadblocks removed". (ANSA).
