A sessions court on Friday extended the interim pre-arrest bail of Ahmad Tanveer, a suspect in the alleged rape of a foreign woman, until October 27.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Rafaqat Ali Gondal heard the suspect’s bail application. At the outset, the court examined the record and observed that the suspect had not joined the investigation.
In response to a query from the court, Ahmad Tanveer said he feared arrest in another case. However, the investigation officer denied that any other case was registered against him and told the court that the suspect could join the investigation if he was willing to do so.
The court directed Tanveer to join the investigation, following which his statement was recorded in connection with the case.
Subsequently, the court directed the security in-charge to ensure that the suspect was safely escorted to his vehicle.
Meanwhile, the complainant’s counsel filed an application seeking permission to record his client’s statement through a video link. The court sought arguments on the application.
However, as Tanveer left the court premises, tensions escalated over his reported detention by police, triggering a clash between his associates and police personnel. Several people on both sides sustained injuries, while the clothes of several individuals were torn during the scuffle.
Separately, Tanveer’s father filed a petition seeking his son’s recovery and production before the court.
