Durango, which stars Cooper Hoffman and Kathryn Newton, has landed a series order at Hulu.
This comes seven months after the Disney streamer ordered a pilot for the project, which comes from Y: The Last Man showrunner Eliza Clark.
Additionally, Merritt Wever, Mason Gooding and Abbey Lee have joined the cast, while The Bear creator Chris Storer has boarded as an exec producer.
Hoffman stars as Mikey, a ski bum townie chasing a buzz. Newton plays Bunny, a homeschooled runaway working as a greasy-spoon waitress. Together they’re riding an avalanche of bad decisions and falling in love while running from cops, criminals, and Mikey’s wife in pursuit of their own American dream.
Wever plays Joni, a sharp and self-effacing local detective who’s deeply unimpressed by almost everything. After twenty years of doing everything right in a resort town where the biggest case is usually a stolen ski pass, Joni has been handed the most interesting thing to happen to her entire career. Gooding plays Miles, a young detective with a sharp mind and a sharper mouth. Whip-smart and relentlessly good-natured, he’s the perfect foil to his colleague Joni. Lee plays Irina, Mikey’s Russian wife. She’s obsessed with American pop culture and is seeking US citizenship. She has Mikey in the palm of her hand.
Durango, which is produced by 20th Television and Media Res, is written by Clark, who exec produces alongside Media Res’ Michael Ellenberg and Christina Malach and American Light & Fixture’s Storer, Josh Senior, and Tyson Bidner. Jesse Peretz directed and executive produced the pilot.
It was one of a number of pilots ordered by Hulu over the last twelve months. In November, the streamer ordered a pilot for YA drama Foster Dade, starring Matt Bomer and written by Greg Berlanti and Bash Doran. It passed on that project in May.
In March, it also ordered a pilot for Lex, a comedy from Severance’s Sean Clements and What We Do In The Shadows’ Paul Simms. Deadline understands that project is just about to go into production.
In February, it ordered a pilot for Ryan Coogler’s The X-Files reboot starring Danielle Deadwyler and that high-profile project was picked up to series earlier this week.
