Paul George Makes All-Time Franchise History in Celtics Debut

Paul George burst onto the scene in his debut with the Boston Celtics on Tuesday, scoring 31 points through just three quarters of action against the Detroit Pistons.

With an entire quarter remaining, George set the new all-time franchise record for most points in a Celtics debut — surpassing the previous mark set by Kristaps Porzingis.

Porzingis scored 30 points in his debut with the Boston franchise in 2023.

George, 36, is beginning his 17th NBA season. He landed in Boston this past offseason, joining the team as part of the blockbuster trade that sent Jaylen Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers.

George connected on six of his eight attempts from behind the 3-point arc through the first three quarters of action on Tuesday. If he's able to maintain this elite level of production, he'll be an excellent complement to superstar forward Jayson Tatum.

George picked up the scoring slack for Tatum, who was 0/7 from behind the 3-point arc.

Despite George's 38-point performance, the Celtics ultimately bowed down to the Pistons with a 121-113 final score,
