Rains are expected over Luzon and Visayas due to the effects of easterlies and the northeasterly windflow, posing a risk of flooding and landslides in some affected areas, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Tuesday.
Easterlies are likely to bring rains over Luzon and Visayas, particularly scattered rains and thunderstorms over the Bicol Region, Western Visayas, and Eastern Visayas, PAGASA said in its 4:00 p.m. weather advisory.
Similar conditions are also expected in Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque and Romblon.
PAGASA warned of possible flooding and landslides in affected areas, especially during heavy rains.
The northeasterly windflow is also likely to bring rains over the Ilocos Region, the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), Batanes, Cagayan and Isabela, with no significant impact expected.
Localized thunderstorms are expected over Mindanao.
Meanwhile, PAGASA is monitoring a tropical depression outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). It was located 2,590 kilometers east of Northern Luzon as of 3:00 p.m.
The tropical depression has maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour (kph) and gusts of up to 55 kph. It is moving northwestward at 25 kph.
PAGASA said in its earlier advisory that the weather disturbance is unlikely to enter PAR and is not affecting the country’s weather conditions. — Edg Adrian A. Eva
