Guwahati, Oct 17: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has capped the number of Form 7 applications an individual elector can file during the claims and objections period, citing instances of bulk filing of objections on “unsubstantiated grounds”.
The move comes ahead of the Special Summary Revision (SSR) of electoral rolls in 17 states, including Assam.
Under the existing rules, any objection to the inclusion of a name in the electoral roll, or an application seeking deletion of a name, must be filed in Form 7. Such objections can be submitted only by a person whose name is already included in the electoral roll of the constituency concerned. Form 7 applications are examined and disposed of by the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO).
